Project Title – WOSH (Women, Sanitation & Hygiene)

Long term Project

PROJECT SCOPE
One of the most hushed topic in a women’s life is her intimate hygiene. If only women’s hygiene
were considered important in India. They face daily Challenges related to inadequate, unsafe and
inappropriate sanitation and hygiene. This is further exacerbated every month when they menstrual
and need to wash, bathe and change the used sanitary pads, more often in privacy, with adequate
water, space for changing, washing drying and disposal of menstruation items. A lack of adequate
guidance on WOSH (Women, Sanitation & Hygiene) Poor quality and inadequate supply of water,
disposal facilities, and privacy for changing in many schools continues to leave girls with limited
options for safe and proper personal hygiene. In addition, a lack of adequate sanitary hygiene
products force some girls to use un-hygiene materials, potentially increasing urogenital infections.

CHALLENGES
Minimal attention is given to menstrual health and hygiene with adolescent girls and boys reporting
that it is shameful to discuss menstruation. The myths perpetuated by this silence and stigma results
in shame and confusion, poor hygiene during the menstrual period, incidence of urinary tract and
vaginal infections, a sense of poor self-worth that persists long after menstrual period. It restricts
their mobility and personal choice. It affects attendance in school and participation in community
life. And it compromises their safety, causing additional stress and anxiety. These challenges are
interventions can help overcome these obstacles, not only do they fulfil the unmet demand for
menstrual hygiene products. They also protect dignity, build confidence, and strengthen sexual and
reproductive health, particularly among adolescents.
Disposal of menstrual hygiene product is not only a waste management problems, but a health issue
as well. Poor disposal of menstrual products may act as a breeding ground for infections and
diseases.

OBJECTIVES
If women and girls are well informed about pre-menarche, understand their bodies, can access the
correct information without shame, they will choose products based on their needs and economic
capacity. They will also create demand for the kind of products they would prefer and drive the
market to invest in linked research and development, packaging or better affordability. Menstrual
hygiene management. Teacher should be educated and trained to impart knowledge about
menstruation and menstrual hygiene management among students. Social and electric media also
play an important role to make the girls and women aware about the latest menstrual products,
different manufacturers, govt. policies and so forth. Emphases should be given on the use of
reusable sanitary or cloth pads to overcome the problem of disposal. Girls and women should be

2
aware of the consequence of disposing used menstrual products in open or flushing them in toilets.
Dustbins with proper lids should be placed in the toilets. Ignorance, misconception are the root
cause of many problems. So, there is a big need to encourage adolescents at school levels to practice
safe and hygiene behaviors.
Menstrual hygiene is directly related to a women’s personal hygiene which include taking proper
care of body, bathing regularly, oral hygiene, washing hand and having clean nails.
Our objective is women hygiene products is to sensitize poor and less educated women and girls by
organizing campaigns, educating them regarding the following issue and distributing free samples
pads and other related products for self-hygiene. And also with the help of social media spread
awareness regarding the same.
Campaigns
We can organize campaign at different place such as govt. school, rural area or the area that need
sensitization. We can approach school by talking to the principal asking for the permission and there
by education students. In school we need to educate teachers as well because end of the teachers
are the only one student look up to when it comes to leaning something besides that teachers
understand students in much more depth that is a teachers explains them a sensitive topic like this
chances are higher that a students will listen about the topic diligently. In case of rural areas we can
approach the authorities to ask for permission. In place like these we will ask help of one of them
living in the place to help us to educate the women as her understand with the local women is
different. We can teach her and them let her spread the world.
Printout and banners
We can put banner while campaigning to attract people and use leaflets and printout for effective
sensitization
Distribute samples
As this project is regarding women hygiene we can distribute samples of sanitary pads, sanitizers,
soaps and other related products. Explaining them the use of the products and benefits of using
them would really effective.
Speakers
An effective talk is really important, therefor a smart speaker is needed who knows what to say, how
to say and is interactive with the people. We need a speaker who can become on with the people,
who can explain him/herself according to people knowledge. For this purpose either we can invite a
speaker or educate a local person or a teacher regarding the same and then let them teach the
women.
