I will Protect Israel by Learning Torah–the only evidence-based method.
I was raised in a strongly secular, intellectual non-Jewish family. I had many non-affiliated Jewish friends, and eventually I was drawn more and more strongly to the Jewish people and to the Torah. I became a convert at age 26 while engaged in an MD/PhD program, eventually rising to become a professor of neuropharmacology and father of seven children, k”h.
Recently I have re-examined my goals through the lens of many Jewish sources, and have come to realize that the best way for me to spend my time is to study and teach Torah full-time. Although from a naive rational perspective this seems rash, when one looks at the history of the Jewish people–surely an anomaly in general human history–its survival can be attributed to only one thing: immersion in and adherence to the Torah. Without detailing the myriad events throughout Jewish history (a good examination of the Hebrew bible might suffice) my decision to pursue learning Torah is an historical evidence-based one, albeit without understanding the ultimate “why” connecting Torah and Jewish survival.
I propose to dedicate my life, IDF-soldier-like, to learning and disseminating Torah, in the hopes that this will please the Creator enough to grant us Jews sufficient resources and relief from affliction to press on in our mission to lead mankind to the ultimate highest spiritual levels, for which, after all, we were all created. May G-d grant me, and us, success.
